Mentoring

Mentoring

The vision of the Mentor leadership Program is to provide every Lambda Chi Alpha undergraduate with a mentor connection-someone who will provide career guidance, advise, and information to help the undergraduate succeed in their chosen field/profession after college.

The Mentor Leadership Program represents another way for us to fulfill the membership for life philosophy of our brotherhood. As an Associate Member, we are provided with a Big Brother who serves as a role model and teacher, in support of our transition into the fraternity and college life. We then return the favor by serving as a Big Brother, providing guidance and leadership for new members in our chapter. Lifelong bonds are often created through these special relationships.

The Joseph T. Charles Mentor Leadership Program is based on these same principles, and ideally, you will be able to create similar bonds with other undergraduate and alumni members. Once a mentee becomes a successful alumnus, and steps up to mentor an undergraduate member by providing support for the transition from college like to the “real world”, the continuum is complete.

By emphasizing this continuum in new member recruitment, Lambda Chi Alpha will position itself competitively as the most attractive organization for the best and brightest college undergraduate leaders.

Lambda Chi Alpha unveiled the Joseph T. Charles Mentor Leadership Program in October 2001. This program is funded by the Lambda Chi Alpha educational Foundation, with is made possible through a generous gift from Joseph T. Charles, Culver-Stockton ’64.

IMPACT Leadership

IMPACT Leadership Training

"Providing the Opportunity to Fully Discover, Integrate and Apply

the Ideals, Skills and Passion to be Successful Men, all the while,

Striving to Demonstrate the Appropriate Behavior at the Appropriate Time

to Achieve the Appropriate Results."

Impact Leadership is the result of Lambda Chi Alpha's effort to create a comprehensive leadership program. The General Fraternity began offering general leadership training as a complement to regular chapter programming at Fraternity meetings in the 1990s. In 1996, under the leadership of Dr. Ed Leonard, the first Leadership Academy was held in conjunction with the 1996 General Assembly. This effort was the first stand-alone General Fraternity program focused entirely on leadership development.

Following the success of the Academy, a leadership curriculum was developed: LEAP - Lead by Example And Precept. After several iterations, LEAP was transformed into Impact Leadership. During this transformation, a professional staff position was added to write the final version of the four-level program. Impact Leadership is the result of immeasurable staff and volunteer time, including undergraduate members, alumni, and non-members.

In 1999, Lambda Chi Alpha unveiled one of the most comprehensive and interactive leadership modules available to collegiate men. This program, known as Impact Leadership, is a four-phase, multi-year module that focuses on an interactive approach to leadership.

Since its introduction, Impact Leadership has reached over 2,000 undergraduate members. Lambda Chi Alpha continues to expose more members to this premier leadership program with the implementation of Level One at the chapter level.

Impact Leadership is one of the most comprehensive and interactive leadership modules available to colligate men. This highly interactive program is divided into four modules (levels) that build upon the concepts of the preceding level:

Level One - Recognition: creates self-awareness of the participant's behavior and communication styles, so as to effectively understand social interaction. The core concept introduced in this level is to ensure the participant's intent be equal and consistent with his impact.

Level Two - Interaction: expands upon the awareness gained in the first module, by demonstrating how to translate and manage personal leadership styles into a group setting. Core concepts explored in this level include: theories of power, conflict resolution, and values used in the context of organizational and personal decisions.

Level Three - Application: immerses the student into many case studies and an experiential exercise, Sub-Arctic Survival, that encourages independent decision-making and an examination of leadership as it applies to organizations and communities.

Level Four - Integration: utilizes a simulation as the framework to challenge each person in a group setting to integrate and apply all of the learned Impact Leadership concepts and skills for the purpose of addressing change.

Community Service

x
North American Food Drive

On November 6, 1993, Lambda Chi Alpha began an international philanthropy project that has raised more than 10.5 million pounds of food for the needy across North America. Called the North American Food Drive, this annual event has arguably become the largest single-day philanthropic project sponsored by a collegiate organization. Its success is so impressive that Lambda Chi Alpha became the first fraternity to receive the Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives in 1995—an award presented annually to associations and companies nationwide as part of its Associations Advance America Awards Program.

The North American Food Drive not only provides a means for our members to give to the needy, but it serves as an excellent public relations tool. By helping individuals in the community, our image is being improved and the ideals of Lambda Chi Alpha are put into action.

The North American Food Drive touches the lives of more and more community members each year. With an increased effort in helping those who are less fortunate, you will continue to uphold the ideals of the Fraternity for all to see by making a difference for the needy in your community.
